With much of Holland's terrain at or below sea level, travel via its extensive network of canals is a way of life for the Dutch. Navigating these waterways and their ubiquitous drawbridges and locks is at times both exhilarating and calming, as you carefully maneuver through bustling towns and cities, or glide past flat, fertile pastures and farms stretching out as far as the eye can see.
